Station II – Feigning the End: the Deer, the Net, and the Beast

Jātaka 16, Cioran, and Revelation: lucidity as a counter-path

The video-image of Station II does not depict a triumphant liberation.
It shows a withdrawal.

In the silence of the forest, a young deer lies motionless. It is trapped, yet it does not struggle. It does not resist. It does not ask to be saved. It applies what it has learned: to know the trap is to know when not to move. Feigning death becomes the only viable form of life.

Inspired by the Tipallatthamiga-Jātaka (16), this scene does not speak of awakening but of survival. Knowledge does not equal freedom here; it is a necessary threshold, not a promise. As Cioran writes, lucidity is an advantage that offers no consolation. It does not save, but it wounds enough to prevent illusion.

Visually, the video insists on suspended tension: the net is still present, the hunter is not defeated, danger has not vanished. And yet something decisive occurs: power loses its grip. Not because it is confronted, but because it no longer finds adherence.

In this way, the Jātaka enters into dialogue with Revelation.
The Beast of Revelation 13 rules through consent, imitation, and identification. Babylon, in Revelation 18, falls not because it is destroyed, but because it is abandoned.

The escaping deer is not a spiritual hero. It is a counter-mystical figure. It does not ascend, it does not transfigure, it announces no redemption. It simply passes through the net by feigning the end.

Station II closes here:
not with salvation,
but with a knowledge that prevents collaboration with one’s own capture.

You are not free.
But now you know where not to stand.
